Can ATF be mixed with hydraulic fluid?
ATF is commonly used as Hydraulic Fluid, but my manual also said don’t mix them. Not sure why. If it did not foam or separate, I don’t think I would worry about it. I had a hard time finding Hydraulic Oil in less than 5 gal containers, until I found it at Home Depot.
Is dexron 3 the same as hydraulic fluid?
Dexron III is a premium performance product formulated for automatic transmission fluid for use in all automatic and powershift transmissions as well as industrial mobile hydraulic systems.
Is ATF fluid the same as hydraulic fluid?
Transmission oil or transmission fluid is a type of oil that helps lubricate the moving parts within the transmission. Some automatic transmission systems use automatic transmission fluid, also known as ATF, as a hydraulic fluid and a gear lubricant.
Can you mix different hydraulic fluids?
CAN I MIX HYDRAULIC FLUIDS? As far as possible, it is always best to avoid mixing different hydraulic fluids. This is because the technical properties could be spoiled by chemical reactions between different additives.
What viscosity is dexron 3?
Performance Specifications
TYPICAL PROPERTIES | ATF |
---|---|
KINEMATIC VISCOSITY CST @ 40°C | 37 |
KINEMATIC VISCOSITY CST @ 100°C | 7.3 |
VISCOSITY INDEX (D2270) | 173 |
BROOKFIELD VISCOSITY @ -40°C | 17000 |
What happens if you put engine oil in hydraulic?
you cannot use Motor Oil in a Hydraulic System. Motor Oil runs at a much higher temperature and Hydraulic Oil starts to fail at around 45c. You cannot as water is one of the worst contaminates for Hydraulic Oil. The system would break down and would cost even more to repair than using Motor Oil.
Is dexron III compatible with dexron?
DEXRON-VI can be used in any proportion in past model vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, in place of DEXRON-III (for instance, topping off the fluid in the event of a repair or fluid change). DEXRON-VI is also compatible with any former version of DEXRON for use in automatic transmissions.
Can you use Dexron 3 fluid in an automatic transmission?
But more important, earlier type fluids are NOT FORWARD COMPATIBLE with transmissions that were designed to use DEXRON-VI. DEXRON-VI can be used in any proportion in past model vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, in place of DEXRON-III (for instance, topping off the fluid in the event of a repair or fluid change).
What happens when you mix Dexron-VI with other chemicals?
When you take two chemicals and mix them inside of any moving component with heat, you will have a “science experiment” going on inside your Engine/ Transmission. The additives on Dexron-VI are probably specific to GM transmissions and hence why if you mix it with other fluids, they don’t get along.
Can you mix ATF and hydraulic fluid?
Unfortunately, the dealer that set it up already mixed the different kinds together?!?! ATF is commonly used as Hydraulic Fluid, but my manual also said don’t mix them. Not sure why. If it did not foam or separate, I don’t think I would worry about it.
Can I mix hydraulic oil with automatic transmission fluid?
Dexron VI, Mercon V or equivalent DO NOT mix tractor hydraulic oil with automatic transmission fluid. Also, (e.g., synthetic with non-synthetic).
