Can I take admission through JEE Mains?

Answer: NITs, IIITs, GFTIs as well as some state Engineering colleges and private colleges give admission through JEE Main.

What happens if I only clear JEE Mains?

Nothing, you will still get admission in an engineering colleges based in your jee mains score. JEE Advanced is conducted for admission in 23 IITs in the country. Basically JEE Main is the eligibility test for appearing in JEE Advanced exam.
