Can Irish and Scottish people understand each other?

While both languages do have a lot of words in common they sound very different. Some native Irish speakers, especially those from the more northern parts of the country like Donegal, can understand a greater volume of Scottish Gaelic. But for the most part Irish speakers cannot understand Scottish Gaelic.

Can Scottish Gaelic understand Irish Gaelic?

Though both came from the same source, Scottish Gaelic and Irish Gaelic are very distinct from each other. Some northern Irish people can understand Scottish Gaelic and vice versa, but in other parts of the countries, the two Gaelics are not typically considered mutually intelligible.

Is Gaelic similar to Welsh?

Welsh is a Celtic language in the same family as Irish Gaelic, Scottish Gaelic, Cornish, and Manx. It’s spoken in two dialects these days: Northern and Southern Welsh.

Can all Mandarin speakers understand each other?

Although Cantonese and Mandarin have many similarities, they are not mutually intelligible. This means that, presuming one has no significant exposure or training, a speaker of Mandarin will understand little to nothing of Cantonese and vice-versa.

SIL Ethnologue lists six living Celtic languages, of which four have retained a substantial number of native speakers. These are the Goidelic languages (i.e. Irish and Scottish Gaelic, which are both descended from Middle Irish) and the Brittonic languages (i.e. Welsh and Breton, which are both descended from Common Brittonic).

Despite the similar languages, Scandinavians sometimes end up speaking English between themselves often due to the dialects existing in the Scandinavian countries and the effects of globalisation.

The Swedes and Norwegians do pronounce all letters, so that is clearer. Men understand each other fairly well in the border regions. Just think of the TV series The Bridge, where the colleagues from Malmö and Copenhagen understand each other, but each speak their own language.
