Can Rangers try out for Delta?

Joining Delta Force As stated before, most Delta Force operators come from the Special Forces and the 75th Ranger Regiment. It’s important to note that you are not required to be a member of Special Forces or of the 75th Ranger Regiment in order to apply for Delta Force.

Can Army Rangers become Delta Force?

With few exceptions, new recruits are not typically eligible for Delta Force training. Often members are from other specialized units, such as the Army Rangers. Soldiers must be ranked E-4 – E8 with at least 2.5 years left of enlisted duty.

Where does Delta Force recruit from the most?

Background. Though Delta Force generally chooses its candidates from within the Army—most Delta operators come from the 75th Ranger Regiment or the Special Forces—the group also selects individuals from other branches of the military, including the Coast Guard, National Guard and even Navy SEALs.

Known Tier 1 units include the U.S. Army’s Delta Force, Ranger Regimental Reconnaissance Company, and Intelligence Support Activity; the Navy’s DEVGRU (SEAL Team 6); and the Air Force’s 24th Special Tactics Squadron. JSOC occasionally also integrates lower-tier units when necessary to fulfill operational requirements.

Two women have made military history by enrolling for Special Air Service (SAS) selection. Women have been able to serve with the SAS after transferring from covert surveillance units – such as the Special Reconnaissance Regiment – since 2018.

In all likelihood, your average D-Boy has been a Ranger or Green Beret at some point in his career before trying out for Delta. In fact, this is encouraged as serving in either the Rangers or Special Forces allows a would-be Delta operator to gain valuable combat experience and develop a strong foundation of infantry and small unit tactics.

Is the 75th Ranger Regiment Special Forces or special forces?

The 75th Ranger Regiment, Army Special Forces, and Delta/CAG/whatever all are Special Operations Forces units that conduct Special Operations missions, but they perform different types of missions.

Are Army Rangers considered part of the SOF community?

With all that out of the way, the U.S. Army Rangers are considered part of the SOF community – they are under the jurisdiction USSOCOM and USASOC. However, to your point, they don’t have quite the same mystique as Green Berets or Delta Force.
