Can the military help you get a house?

Veterans Affairs Home Loan: This mortgage is available to qualified U.S. veterans, reservists, active-duty personnel and eligible spouses. A portion of these loans is guaranteed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and protects the lender’s investment if the borrower defaults on the loan.

Does the military give you a free house?

Although the military offers complimentary housing for all personnel within the confines of the base, some individuals may prefer to live within the larger community, particularly if they are married or have a family. For these individuals, the military offers what is known as a basic housing allowance.

How long do you have to serve in the military to get free college?

The Montgomery GI Bill extends educational benefits to any active duty member of the military who served for at least 2 years of active duty. You can join the National Guard or Reserves with a VA Disability Rating – if you can get medical clearance. Some injuries or disabilities may indeed prevent you from serving in the military again. But the service-connected disability rating isn’t what prevents you from serving again, it is the injury that does that.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs offers affordable home loans for military. However, if you’re purchasing your home using the VA Home Loan, keep in mind that the home must be your primary residence and there are conditions on the types of properties buyers can purchase.

Will the military pay rent?

The California Assembly has passed Senate Bill 644, which limits the amount that those currently in the military will pay for rental security deposits. Under SB 644, active duty military will only need to pay a security deposit equivalent to one month’s rent. If it’s a furnished apartment it can be no more than two.

Do veterans get free college?

Qualifying veterans who do not have available funds via the GI Bill or any other federal education program may be eligible to receive free tuition. Veterans may receive 1 month of free tuition for each month of qualifying service for up to 4 academic years at state-supported schools and technical colleges.

Simply having a VA disability rating does not prevent someone from joining the military. However, the underlying medical condition may prevent someone from medically qualifying to serve again. However, other underlying medical conditions may prevent you from joining the military again.

If you are on orders to serve on active duty for 30 days or more, you’ll receive the full housing allowance rate, the same as active-duty personnel. If you have dependents, you will receive the housing allowance, even when staying in the barracks at basic training or technical school/AIT/A-School.

Can you live off base in the military without paying taxes?

Instead of living in the dormitories or residing in on-base housing, you may be authorized to live off-base. In this case, the military will pay you BAH. The amount of this nontaxable allowance is dependent upon your rank, marital (dependency) status and the area you (or your dependents) live in.
