Can we give food as zakat?

Yes, if the wealth the person owns is in the form of food, such as the case for a farmer unless he sells the harvest (in which case he now has to pay zakat on wealth). Zakat on money is paid in money, zakat on other forms of wealth is paid in that wealth.

Can Zakat be given for iftar?

Before the Eid al-Fitr prayer at the end of Ramadan, every adult Muslim who possesses food in excess of their needs must pay zakat al-Fitr (fitrana). Zakat al-Fitr can be paid during Ramadan, before Eid al-Fitr prayers at the latest, so that the poor can enjoy the day of Eid.

Unlike normal voluntary charity, Zakat must be paid by all those who are eligible, as instructed by Allah (SWT). In order for a Muslim to be eligible, they must be an adult and their excess wealth must meet the nisab threshold and stay there for a full lunar year.

To be eligible to receive zakat, the recipient must be poor and/or needy. A poor person is someone whose property, in excess of his basic requirements, does not reach the nisab threshold. The recipient must not belong to your immediate family; your spouse, children, parents and grandparents cannot receive your zakat.

How do I pay Zakat on bank balance?

Zakat on Cash and Bank Balances Zakat should be paid at 2.5\% on all cash balance and bank balances in your savings, current or FD accounts. The amount technically should be in the bank for one year. Usually it happens that the balance keeps on changing as per personal requirements.
