Can we use 10mm bar in beam?
According to general thumb rule, we will assume a structure of G+1/2 storey/two floor residential building, using standard 9″ thick walls, the best mm bar used for 2 storey/G+1 building, we should use steel bar of 10mm dia for footing, combination of 12mm & 16mm dia of steel bar used for column, 12mm dia of steel bar …
Can we use 12mm dia bar in beams?
As per IS 456:2000, In RCC beam, tension zone and compression zone, flexural member, Horizontal support, minimum diameter of reinforcement bar/ Transverse Bar used is 12mm. All structural engineer recommends 12mm dia bar as minimum diameter of bar for beam.
What is the minimum diameter of bar to be used in a column?
The main longitudinal reinforcement bars used in column shall not be less than 12 mm in diameter.
What is the minimum diameter of bar used in the footing?
The depth of concrete in the foundation also matters in the design of the footing. Large bars with higher spacing may be used in lieu of smaller bars with reduced spacing. Diameter of bar generally used in slabs are 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm and 16 mm or more depending upon various factors.
Can we use 8mm for slab?
Bars in slab like in slab we generally use 8mm, 10mm , 12mm because load is less as compared to beam , column, footing.
What is minimum clear cover in beam?
The minimum clear cover of the beam should be 25 mm and the column should be 40 mm. The minimum clear cover of the slab should be 15 mm. But, for safety rather than economical, we should provide 20 mm. The minimum clear cover for footing should be above 50 mm.
What should be the minimum diameter of a chair reinforcement?
Chairs of minimum 12 mm diameter bars should be used. Lap slices should not be used for bar larger than 36 mm. In steel reinforcement binding wire required is 8 kg per MT. Lapping is not allowed for the bars having diameters more than 36 mm.
What size diameter steel at a minimum should be used for foundation works?
For columns footings, the minimum reinforcement should be ½” diameter bars at 6″ centres in both directions forming a 6″ mesh. Reinforcement in the foundation is needed to ensure the continuity of the structure.
What is the criteria for maximum diameter of bar in slab?
The maximum diameter of bar used in slab should not exceed 1/8 of the total thickness of slab. Maximum spacing of main bar is restricted to 3 times effective depth or 300 mm whichever is less.
How thick is a normal house slab?
4 inches
Standard concrete floor slab thickness in residential construction is 4 inches. Five to six inches is recommended if the concrete will receive occasional heavy loads, such as motor homes or garbage trucks.
What is the requirement of reinforcement for 100mm thick wall?
Detailing of Reinforcement [IS 456 Guidelines]: In RC wall, transverse steel is not required (not less than 0.4\%) Maximum spacing of bars is 450mm or 3t, whichever lesser. The thickness of wall in no case should be less than 100mm.
What are the different diameter bars available in the market?
Bars which are available in the market are 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, 16 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 28 mm, 32 mm, 36 mm and 42 mm. Greater diameter like 64 mm and 128 mm has to be ordered specially from steel plant for manufacturing. Note:- Q 1 :- why we are not using 14 mm bar? There is no specific reason for not using bar of 14,18, 22 mm etc diameter bar.
How many bars of 10mm are required to replace 8mm?
If 10 mm bars is replaced by 8 mm, we require 1.5625 times more no. Suppose if 8 mm bars is replaced by 10 mm, we require 0.64 times of 8 mm dia., i.e, if there are 25 bars of 8 mm, then 25 x 0.64 = 16 bars of 10 mm are required.
What is the diameter of a steel footing bar?
Similarly for footing we use 10 mm or more than that (depends upon loading) Bars which are available in the market are 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, 16 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 28 mm, 32 mm, 36 mm and 42 mm Greater diameter like 64 mm and 128 mm has to be ordered specially from steel plant for manufacturing
Why we don’t use bar of 14-18 or 22mm diameter?
There is no specific reason for not using bar of 14,18, 22 mm etc diameter bar. I have mentioned the bars which are available in the market (India). As i mentioned in the first line of this post we use the bars which are available in the market. Q 2:- How do we decide number of bars & which diameter of bars to use?
