Can we use AAC blocks for outer wall?

Aerated concrete is also known as cellular concrete. AAC blocks can be used both in load bearing walls as well as non-load bearing or partition walls.

AAC blocks are widely used in the construction of apartments and other types of residential properties, industrial and commercial buildings, such as hotels, offices, hospitals and schools. Owing to their excellent heat insulation capacity, AAC bricks find application in interior and exterior construction.

What are the disadvantages of AAC block?

  • AAC Block is Non load Bearing material, it can be used only in wall partitions.
  • AAC block is brittle in nature that means It can break easily.

What are the advantages of AAC blocks?

They are lightweight blocks which are easy to handle and are sustainable. AAC blocks are used for load bearing as well as non-load bearing walls, partition and panel walls, an inner leaf of cavity walls or a backing to brick masonry. Mostly AAC Blocks are used in RCC framed high rise structure.

AAC blocks for load bearing structure can be used. The point here to be noted is, load bearing is conventional and out of order, it is always advisable to construct with RCC framed structure. The next factor is the cost. The construction with AAC blocks are costlier than red bricks.

What is the advantage of AAC walls over frame walls?

The light weight means that R -values for AAC are comparable to conventional frame walls, but they have higher thermal mass, provide air tightness, and as just noted, are not combustible. That light weight also gives a high sound reduction for privacy, both from outside noises and from other rooms when used as interior partition walls.

What is the difference between AAC block and clay brick?

The Compressive strength of AAC block is 3 to 4.5 N/mm2 while of clay brick is 2.5 to 3.5 N/mm2. AAC blocks for load bearing structure can be used. The point here to be noted is, load bearing is conventional and out of order, it is always advisable to construct with RCC framed structure. The next factor is the cost.
