Asexual people may not experience sexual attraction but may still experience romantic attraction. Likewise, aromantic people may not experience romantic attraction, but may experience sexual attraction. It’s also possible to be both asexual and aromantic.

Asexuality is completely normal! It’s a healthy sexual orientation just like being gay or being straight, and you can still have normal relationships. It can be confusing, trying to figure out if you’re asexual, especially since sex is so prevalent in our culture. It may be difficult or take time, and that’s ok!

You cannot choose to be asexual and aromantic. Trust me. As an aroace, I probably would have chosen not to be aromantic, and maybe even not to be asexual, if I could have had the choice. You cannot choose to be asexual and aromantic.

Aromantic asexual people might still have romantic or sexual relationships, depending on their feelings. There are, after all, many motivations for having sex with someone or getting into a relationship — it’s not all about being attracted to them. Remember that being aromantic and asexual doesn’t mean someone is incapable of love or commitment.
