Can you consume ATP directly?

Yes, ATP can be synthesised, isolated and you can even eat it. It would be very expensive to do so but considering others put gold on most of their food that’s not a reason in itself not to. While eating too high a dose of ATP is not beneficial as per Paracelsus’ law, small amounts are certainly not harmful.

Can you take ATP orally?

Oral ATP supplements have beneficial effects in some but not all studies examining physical performance. In an experimental study by Jordan et al. [6], three groups of nine healthy men received ATP (150 or 225 mg) or placebo for 14 days. Physical performance and muscular strength were positively affected.

Is ATP consumed or produced?

Four molecules of ATP per glucose are actually produced, however, two are consumed as part of the preparatory phase. The initial phosphorylation of glucose is required to increase the reactivity (decrease its stability) in order for the molecule to be cleaved into two pyruvate molecules by the enzyme aldolase.

What is ATP consuming?

ATP is consumed for energy in processes including ion transport, muscle contraction, nerve impulse propagation, substrate phosphorylation, and chemical synthesis. These processes, as well as others, create a high demand for ATP.

Why is it bad to eat ATP?

The problem with ingesting ATP are 1) biological half-life, which is much lower because of ATPases in the blood, 2) the physiological effects of ATP as a signaling molecule (in the circulatory system, kidneys) and 3) higher energy density in eating something like glucose.

Why can’t ATP be used as an energy source?

ATP is made within cells where it is needed from food (energy source). The ATP can then be used as needed and it’s formation is controlled as it doesn’t last long. It is unstable in water and generally unstable. You couldn’t use it to transfer energy from say your liver to your heart or something.
