Can you donate plasma if you have autoimmune hepatitis?

You can donate blood if you have had non-viral hepatitis from toxic exposure, drug reaction, or alcohol use so long as there are no symptoms of hepatitis at the time of the donation.

Can you donate blood with liver disease?

Yes, as long as your doctor has ruled out any serious ongoing liver disease, you can begin donating blood again.

Which hepatitis Cannot donate blood?

People infected with hepatitis B may carry the virus without even knowing it. They can pass it to others through blood or sexual contact. Because of this, anyone who has ever tested positive for hepatitis B cannot donate blood. It’s not just hepatitis B that affects who can donate blood.

What diseases stop you from donating blood?

Persons with the following conditions are not allowed to donate blood anyime:

  • Cancer.
  • Cardiac disease.
  • Sever lung disease.
  • Hepatitis B and C.
  • HIV infection, AIDS or Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD)
  • High risk occupation (e.g. prostitution)
  • Unexplained weight loss of more than 5 kg over 6 months.
  • Chronic alcoholism.

Can you reverse autoimmune hepatitis?

Your doctor may also call it autoimmune chronic hepatitis. It’s a liver disease that you need to monitor for life. There’s no cure for autoimmune hepatitis, but treatment can help you manage your symptoms and prevent damage to your liver.

Having an autoimmune disease or taking biologic medications does not automatically make you ineligible to donate. If you are interested in donating but have questions or concerns about your health, contact your healthcare provider.
