Can you get rabies from a chicken bite?
Some animals almost never get rabies. These include rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, rats, mice, guinea pigs, gerbils and hamsters. They can get rabies, but it almost never happens. Other animals, such as birds, chickens, snakes, fish, turtles, lizards and insects, never get rabies.
What should you do if a chicken bites you?
If poultry scratch or bite you:
- Wash wounds with soap and warm water immediately.
- Seek medical attention and tell your doctor you were bitten or scratched by a bird, especially if: The bird appears sick or is acting unusual.
