Can you replace an 8 ohm speaker with a 4 ohm?

You can run a 4 ohm amp through an 8 ohm speaker, but it will have less volume. If you run an 8 ohm amp through a 4 ohm speaker, then bad stuff will happen. I run a 4 ohm randall head through an 8 ohm cab all the time. if the speaker has a higher impedance (measure in ohms) then you can put it in.

Are 4 ohm speakers better than 8 ohms?

A lower impedance speaker will accept more power. For example, a 4 ohm speaker will extract more power from your amplifier than a 8 ohm speaker, about twice as much. For connecting speakers in series, the impedances always add. For example, the impedance of the series connection pictured is 16 ohms.

Are car speakers 4 or 8 ohm?

Traditionally 8 ohms are used for home and some theater speakers. 4 ohm speakers are generally used for car use, with some 2 ohm models used at times (usually subwoofers).

Can you use a 4 ohm crossover with 8 ohm speakers?

You can use an 8 ohm speaker with a 4 ohm crossover by connecting an 8 ohm resistor in parallel with it. The end result is 8 Ohms/2 = 4 ohms the crossover will see. You can use a 4 ohm speaker with an 8 ohm crossover by connecting it in series with a 4 ohm resistor.

What happens if you replace a 4 ohm speaker with an 8 ohm speaker?

Yes. The 4 ohm load speakers will have half the resistance as the 8 ohm but it will work fine. Just easier to power up to maxim output so be careful not to blow the speakers as they will be twice as efficient as the old ones.

Can you mix different ohm speakers?

The calculation for mixing these speakers involves speaker system A (8 ohms) multiplied by speaker system B (16 ohms) = 128 ohms. This figure is then divided by total ohms in both speaker systems, which is 12. The calculation is 128/24 = 5.33 ohms.

What’s the difference between 4 ohms and 8 ohms?

A 4-ohm speaker requires more power from an amplifier than an 8-ohm speaker to produce the same loudness of sound. This is due to the relationship between voltage, current and resistance in electronic circuits; for a given voltage, a lower impedance means a greater current.

Will a 8 ohm speaker work in a car?

So using that 8 ohm speaker will give you the same amount of output, at half the power required as a 4 ohm speaker. Your amps run cooler and draw less power from your vehicle’s charging system, your speakers run cooler, and everyone is happy!

Can I mix speakers with different Ohms?

A: The short answer to your question is that you absolutely can mix and match speakers of varying impedance.
