Can you take a shower instead of ghusl?

The proper answer to this question varies by madhhab. In the Hanafi school, an intention is not required for wudu, nor for ghusl. So, as long as you washed your face, hands to the elbows, and feet to the ankles, and also wiped most of your head at some point during the shower, then you have wudu.

What is ghusl compulsory?

The obligatory actions of the ghusl must be performed in order for the ghusl to be ruled as valid. Simply put, the obligatory actions are to rinse the nose, mouth, and entire body with water at least once. Water must reach every part of the outer body that is possible to rinse without undue hardship.

But, the minor ablution of wudu must be performed before each prayer, unless you have maintained wudu from a pervious prayer.
