Can you take emergency leave during AIT?

Generally, the only leave you’ll be able to take in AIT will be Emergency Leave. Although, if your AIT is scheduled to go through the Christmas/New Years holiday, you will most likely be granted what is called “Block Leave”. No you cannot take leave until you have completed the course. unless its during the holiday.

Can emergency leave be denied?

Emergency leave may also be granted for catastrophic life events. But if he is deployed and must be sent stateside for the emergency, the leave might be denied. Even if the service member is not granted military family emergency leave, he or she can still use the emergency Red Cross message system.

Many commanders will actually force Soldiers to take leave after they’ve accured the 60 days if they haven’t used it already.

How do I request emergency leave?

Put “Emergency Leave” or something similar in the subject line. Mention the reason you’re leaving, how long you expect to be gone, and any other information you discussed with your manager in the body. Thank them at the end of the email and ask them to reach out if they need any other information.
