Can you use expired saline nasal solution?

Never use your nasal spray after the expiration date on the bottle. Liquid medication can easily be contaminated with dirt or bacteria.

Does sodium chloride powder expire?

Sodium Chloride and Sodium Bicarbonate will not expire in your lifetime. Just visit any chemistry lab and check out the large bottle of water with the undissolved white powder at the bottom.

Do saline packets really expire?

The salt packets don’t “expire” per se…salt water remains salty and resistant to bacteria growth for the most part. The packets are likely to be dated for one or maybe two allergy/cold/flu seasons to encourage stock turnover. If you are a couple of months “over”, it should be fine.

Is it safe to use expired saline refills?

All to say that it sounds like there should be relatively low risk using expired saline refills. You paid enough for them already. There is no such thing as expired salt. If the packets got so wet that the paper casing disintegrated, or if they were otherwise contaminated, just toss them. You can use any non-iodized salt.
