Do AIO coolers need a pump?

Posted on February 5, 2021 by Author

Do AIO coolers need a pump?

AIO coolers work in a similar way to a car radiator. A pump, positioned on top of your CPU, circulates a special liquid (usually a combination of distilled water and a thermally conductive fluid) around a soft tubing system, configured in a closed loop.

Where do you attach the AIO pump?

You should connect your AIO pump to either the AIO_PUMP header or PUMP_HEADER, or something else similar, while the actual fans of the radiator should go to the CPU_FAN header — through a splitter like this if you have more than one fan.

How do I mount my AIO cooler top?

One good mounting position is to mount the radiator of the cooler at the frontal area of the case interior. The side of the radiator where the tubes connect should be at the bottom, and the pump should be mounted in a position where it is slightly lower than the top of the radiator, where air is captured.

Which is better air cooler or AIO?

Why should you use an AIO cooler? Just as a swimming pool cools you down quicker than a fan, AIO coolers are much better at chilling CPUs than air. This allows you to get the most out of more powerful components because you can overclock your processor to make it faster without temperatures rising too high.

Do AIO coolers improve performance?

Yes, it is able to run at higher speeds because as it is cooler, electrons flow more easily through, since there is less resistance. Therefore it is easier to achieve max clock speed or even higher. A CPU won’t go any faster unless it was already overheating and slowing down.

Can AIO cooling be mounted on the front of the case?

There are not a few manufacturers of AIO cooling systems that show their products with the radiator mounted on the front of the case. However, mounting the radiator in this position could literally end the life of the device quickly (plus it will reduce performance).

Can I mount my radiator at the front of the case?

If your case does not allow you to mount your radiator at the front of the case with the tubes down or at the top of the case, you can mount your radiator at the front of the case with the tubes up as a last resort. If you do so, make sure that your cooler pump is mounted in a lower position than the top of your radiator.

What are the mounting orientations for the radiators?

Nowadays, the conventional mounting orientations for the radiators mostly depend on the cases. Most cases have at least one area where you can mount the radiators of a 240 or 280mm AIO Liquid cooler.
