Do all 4-cylinder engines have the same firing order?

Most 4-cylinder engines have a firing order of 1-3-4-2 although other firing orders such as 1-3-2-4, 1-4-3-2, 1-2-4-3 are possible.

Why do engines have different firing order?

In inline engines, the firing order can vary somewhat, yet most of the order is arranged so that the firing of the cylinders is evenly distributed along with the crankshaft. Firing order affects the vibration, sound, and symmetry of the power output from the engine. Firing order greatly affects crankshaft design.

Why is the firing order not 1234?

It’s because of the design of the crankshaft. If you look at the inline 4-cyl engine, the crankshaft is a flat plane crank, meaning the throws are 180° out.

Why do Cylinders not fire in order?

In engines, cylinders don’t fire in the sequence of 1-2-3-4-5-6 and so on as it could cause the crankshaft to deform or break. So, manufacturers shuffle the combustion in such a way that it creates power balance in the engine. There is no uniform practice for numbering the cylinders in V-type engines.
