Do ant queens give orders?

Do queen ants make decisions?

It should be noted that despite the royal title, the queen ant has no real authority over a colony. She does not direct other ants or make decisions for the colony. Instead, she – just like every other ant in the colony – is motivated by instinct and a general sense of how she can provide for colony needs.

Are all ants male except the queen?

Can ants fight without a queen?

Luckily, the queen does not need to command the ants in war as worker/soldier ants can use pheromones (basically chemicals than they can detect with their antennae) to tell themselves apart from enemy ants and can fight on their own without any actual leadership.

How do ants know who their queen is?

After she is born, worker ants are able to tell who their queen is simply by looking at her appearance. This is the most common way that an ant becomes a queen, but in some ant species it’s a bit different. For instance, in a few, the future queen might camouflage herself as a worker before she’s later promoted to queen.

Why do ants fight each other?

Most of the conflicts that happen is primarily because of a reason linked to the queen ant. Individual colonies have their own scent, which helps identify impostors. If a group of ants from a different colony/species were to conflict, it almost certainly starts a small war.
