Do kpop idols have to sing?

K-pop idols rarely sing live. Lipsync is the norm, and is more common in girl groups than boy groups. Currently, the only groups that sing live in most of their performances are BTS, BTOB, and MAMAMOO.

Can a dancer be K-pop Idol?

Yes, people are allowed to become a member of a K-pop group if they don’t sing well, if that’s what you meant. As long as they can rap well, or they’re good at dancing, or both. Different companies will set different sets of standards though.

While many K-Pop idols today are quite talented, there are of course some who aren’t as well. What you might lack in talent, you must be able to make up for through marketability, whether it is through visuals or character and etc.

Yes, although you can’t be dramatically bad at singing or rapping. This is because in Kpop groups, there is no “dancer.” What I mean by this is that there is no such designated member that only dances and never has lines. There are main dancers, lead dancers, etc.

Take time to analyze Kpop group member positions. Notice that most main and lead dancers (who of course, specialize in dance) are commonly given the position as a rapper. Rap is overlooked by vocals in both the Kpop industry and the local public, so less emphasis is placed on mastering rap.
