Do skate shops sell axle nuts?
If the skateshop is worth its salt, they should have kingpin, axle, and hardware nuts in stock – and give them to you for free. If necessary you can always go the Hardware Store (Home Depot, Rona, etc) and get a 9/16″ nut for the kingpin, or 1/2″ nut for the axle.
What size nut do skateboard trucks use?
(Standard truck axle nut size is 5⁄16 – 24 UNF, and the thinner “jam” style with an optional nylon lock.) Trucks that are too wide can make doing tricks difficult and can cause the wheels to get in the way when the skateboard is being ridden.

Are riser pads necessary?
Another reason for skateboard riser pads is that they absorb some of the shock of impact, which can help keep your hardware from vibrating loose. Skateboard decks that use wheels smaller than 55mm do not typically require risers; however, even 1/8″ risers can help keep your hardware in place.

Skaters that are 13+ or wear an adult shoe size of 8+, should be able to handle a full-sized skateboard (7.5″ or wider). Can you loosen skateboard wheels?
If your skateboard wheels feel too tight, loosen them slightly by turning them counter-clockwise. Loosen one wheel at a time until each is able to spin freely by spinning the wheel with your hand. You can also use washers to help avoid pinching the wheel and bearing into place.
