Do they go through your bag at basic training?

Shakedown: When you get off the bus from Reception Battalion, you’ll be told to line up your bag in a certain way to see whether you can follow instructions. Then you’ll be ordered to empty your bag. If any contraband falls out, it will be your first opportunity to see a drill sergeant go ballistic.

Does the military check your bags?

Active duty military personnel traveling on official orders or for pleasure are invited to check extra baggage free of charge (excluding military pet shipments).

Does your phone get searched at basic training?

Drill sergeants still monitor all phone use and often restrict photography, texting, and social media usage. If the recruits can send texts or check Facebook, it is entirely because the drill sergeant saw fit to reward them with such privilege.

Depending on your destination, bags are free of charge with military ID: Up to 5 bags 100 lbs each for active U.S. military and / or dependents traveling on orders. Up to 3 bags 50 lbs each for active U.S. military on personal / leisure travel.

What happens if I bring contraband to my training?

The following items are considered contraband and will be disposed of upon arrival. Possession of some of these items will result in immediate removal from training. These items will be issued to you, and the amount of purchase will be deducted from your pay.

Do you get new military records at basic training?

You will be issued new ones at basic training. To complete all of your military records, you will need to bring some items with you to basic training. Better to be safe than sorry so bring any paperwork you think may be useful during your processing. Certified copies of paperwork works well (keeps originals safe).

Remember your recruiter will give you a list of required items. You should bring enough civilian clothes to last about 2 days. Bring glasses (if you have them) as opposed to contact lenses. The training environment is not conducive to contact wear.
