Do white belts get stripes in BJJ?

Stripes on a BJJ white belt are an indication of a student’s progression through the white belt rank, for various reasons. A student can earn up to four stripes as a white belt, but does not necessarily have to earn four stripes for promotion to blue belt. Each student is on an individual journey in BJJ.
