Do you get BAH If you have a child?

It depends on whether or not you have legal and physical custody of your children, pay child support, and/or live in single-type Gov’t quarters. If you have legal and physical custody of your children, then you are authorized BAH at the with-dependent rate if not assigned adequate family-type Gov’t quarters.

Do you get BAH If you have a dependent?

No. Although BAH distinguishes between with-dependent and without-dependent, the with- dependent compensation is based on comparable civilians using average family size.

Do you get BAH based on dependent location?

In general, the amount of BAH you receive depends on your location, pay grade, and whether you have dependents. Under most circumstances, you receive BAH for the location where you are assigned, not where you live.

Can I move out the barracks without BAH?

You can move out of the barracks when you are entitled to Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). This occurs when you are married, single parent, or Staff Sergeant (E-6) and above. Exceptions to policy can be made by the commander, but must be valid and approved.

What Does BAH with dependents mean?

BAH is an allowance to offset the cost of housing when you do not receive government-provided housing. Your BAH depends upon your location, pay grade and whether you have dependents. BAH rates are set by surveying the cost of rental properties in each geographic location.

If you are single (no dependents) you can leave the barracks when you make the rank of Staff Sergeant(E-6). If you are married rank does not matter, most units require you to be at least an NCO (E5 or higher) in order to live out of the barracks.

Like Base Pay (The regular pay your airman is receiving for his rate), the BAH for the month will come in two separate times. Your “$1000” BAH will come as $500 and $500. Your BAH may not show up in the pay right away.
