Do you have to pay for emergency leave from the military?

Emergency leave is leave that is taken in response to a family or other emergency situation. Emergency leave is usually authorized very quickly. Emergency leave is paid leave that is chargeable against your leave balance. This paid leave is not chargeable against the service member’s leave balance.

Is Red Cross leave chargeable?

Verification from the American Red Cross is desirable, but not required if documentation from other official sources is available. Commanders may authorize up to 30 days of emergency leave. Emergency leave is ordinary (chargeable) leave; the only portion not chargeable is trans-oceanic travel.

What qualifies as emergency leave?

Emergency leave is defined as chargeable leave approved by your commander, because of a verified death, a life-threatening condition due to an accident, illness, or major surgery, or to visit a terminally ill person in the immediate family.

What is the maximum amount of terminal leave I can take?

Does Red Cross help pay for military emergency leave?

The American Red Cross works in partnership with military aid societies to provide quality, reliable financial assistance to eligible applicants 24/7/365. Assistance can include funds for emergency travel, burial of a loved one, emergency food and shelter, etc.

What happens to my civilian pay while on military leave?

An employee’s civilian pay remains the same for periods of military leave under 5 U.S.C. 6323 (a), including any premium pay (except Sunday premium pay) an employee would have received if not on military leave.

What is the cost of living allowance for the Army?

ARMY COST OF LIVING ALLOWANCE. Soldiers assigned to high-cost locations in the continental U.S. and overseas are paid a Cost of Living Allowance.
