Do you need pre-algebra before algebra 1?

We have been taught that prealgebra must come before algebra. Prealgebra is usually taught in the 6th or 7th grade as a preparation stage to get to algebra.

What is the difference between pre AP Algebra 1 and Algebra 1?

8th grade Pre AP Algebra I is equivalent to the 9th grade Pre AP Algebra I course offered at WHS & WEHS, which is advanced Algebra I. Pre AP Algebra I is an advanced 9th grade course and the curriculum focus and content is over the Algebra I TEKS and not the 8th grade math TEKS.
