Do you need short hair for ROTC?
Q: What about haircuts, wearing uniforms, and harassment? A: Well, you have to be well-groomed; hair off your ears and not down your shoulders (crewcut not required). You will learn how to wear a uniform properly, but the uniform is only required to be worn during class times and training.
How long can Air Force hair be?

Hair will not exceed 2 inches in bulk, regardless of length and ¼ inch at natural termination point; allowing only closely cut or shaved hair on the back of the neck to touch the collar. Hair will not touch the ears or protrude under the front band of headgear.
Do you have to shave head for ROTC?
We do not cut anyone’s hair. You must, however, meet the Army appearance standards. That may mean for males that you have shorter hair than you currently have, but no one gets his or her head shaved. Females must wear their hair up off the collar of the uniform.
How do you keep your hair long in ROTC?
Hair is allowed below the shoulders; while in uniform, it must be pulled up above the uniform’s collar. For longer hair, use hair elastic and hairpins that match your hair color. Do not use excessive amounts of pins or elastic to hold hair in place. Try to hide the hair pins or elastics so they are not visible.

Hair will not be over 3 inches in length fully extended (an extended hair, not the style, determines proper length) on the upper portion of the head. The bulk of the hair shall not exceed approximately two inches.

When hair is in a ponytail, it must be a single ponytail; that does not exceed bulk and length standards and does not extend below the bottom of the collar (except while in the PTU).
