Do you wash off a chemical exfoliant?

You do not need to wash off exfoliating serums or similar skincare products. Due to acid exfoliants making the skin more prone to sun damage we would also recommend applying an exfoliating serum in your evening routine therefore allowing the ingredients to penetrate the deeper layers without the worry of UV exposure.

How often should I use chemical exfoliant?

Most experts advise that you exfoliate two to three times per week — as long as your skin can handle it. Chemical exfoliants tend to be fine to use more regularly. Pixi’s Glow Tonic contains glycolic acid to clean pores and aloe vera to calm skin.

What should I use after chemical exfoliant?

Chemical exfoliants do have the potential to leave skin feeling dry. To combat this, moisturize well immediately afterward. You’ll also need to apply SPF, as AHAs and BHAs can make skin more sensitive to the sun.

Can I use chemical exfoliant everyday?

Because chemical exfoliators tend to be less intense and also more evenly applied, many people find that it’s okay to use them every day. If you’re using a chemical exfoliator, you can try using a smaller amount, a gentler product (like lactic or glycolic acid rather than a retinoid), or just use it less frequently.

Should I start with AHA or BHA?

AHA is best for dry skin and surface-level skin concerns like acne scars. BHAs are best for oily and acne-prone skin types. You can use both by buying products with both ingredients, or by alternating products.

Can I use hyaluronic acid with BHA?

Can I Combine AHA/BHA With Hyaluronic Acid? Yes! Hyaluronic acid is great for applying after any exfoliating acids.

How long does it take for a chemical exfoliant to work?

You can also ease into chemical exfoliants with a once a week (or once every two weeks) treatment. If an exfoliant is right for you, you should start to see results with smoother skin and reduced hyperpigmentation after about 3 weeks. Continuous use is required to maintain results.

What are exfoliants and how do they work?

Exfoliants help the shedding along, resulting in more even, “glowier” skin. What’s chemical exfoliation? Chemical exfoliants help cells shed in a more indirect way than physical exfoliation, which works using friction between the tool or scrub and the skin.

Use 1-2 times a week AM and PM. Chemical exfoliants are powerful but can be intense to introduce to your routine and there are few guidelines you can follow to avoid reaction. We recommend building up the use of chemical exfoliants in your routine gradually increasing the frequency slowly to allow your skin to adjust.
