Does BYU require the SAT essay?
BYU will accept either the ACT or SAT. We will consider your highest composite score. Currently, BYU does not require the writing section of the SAT. We will, however, pay particular attention to applicants’ writing ability as demonstrated by the essay portion of the admission application.
How many essays do you need to write for BYU?
If there’s something about you we should know, make sure to include it in your essay responses! Freshmen applicants are required to submit four essays. Transfer applicants are required to submit five essays.

BYU doesn’t accept a weighted GPA. Some colleges add a point to any AP classes.
What SAT is required for BYU?
The 25th percentile New SAT score is 1220, and the 75th percentile SAT score is 1410. In other words, a 1220 places you below average, while a 1410 will move you up to above average. There’s no absolute SAT requirement at BYU, but they really want to see at least a 1220 to have a chance at being considered.
Does BYU require a letter of recommendation?
If you are a freshman applicant, you will be required to provide a high school teacher recommendation unless you fall in one of the following categories: You indicated that you will not be graduating from high school on the application.
