Does fuel consumption increase with load?

The heavier the vehicle is, the more energy it needs to get moving. Heavier vehicles have greater inertia and greater rolling resistance, which both contribute to increased fuel consumption.

How do I calculate HP fuel consumption?

Expressed as a formula it looks like this:

  1. Given Horsepower x .50 lb fuel/hp = lbs of fuel for given horsepower.
  2. 200 lbs/hr / 6.25 lbs/gal = 32 gph.
  3. BSFC . 50 / 6.25 = . 0800 gallons / horsepower / hour.
  4. OR.
  5. BSFC .70 / 6.59 = .106 gallons / horsepower / hour.
  6. 800 * .106 = 84.80 gph.

What is specific fuel consumption of diesel?

The specific fuel consumption per kW-hr for a diesel engines is very close to 0.27 kg / kW-hr.

What is the cause for high fuel consumption in diesel engine?

This bad habit is threefold – driving too fast, accelerating too quickly, and stopping too suddenly. All three of these actions lead to high fuel consumption. Where possible, you should accelerate slowly and drive with the speed of traffic.

What is the rate of fuel consumption?

Fuel consumption is the inverse of fuel economy. It is the amount of fuel consumed in driving a given distance. It is measured in the United States in gallons per 100 miles, and in liters per 100 kilometers in Europe and elsewhere throughout the world.

How much fuel does a 5 bhp motor use?

For 5 bhp that works out at 1.125 liter/hour. In real life no motor runs at maximum power for any length of time, so if the engine is running part of the time at reduced load the fuel consumption is lower (which probably accounts for my rule of thumb coming out a little lower than Alejandro’s formula).

How much fuel does a diesel engine consume?

A correctly tuned diesel engine consumes fuel according to its power requirements. Simple really, the more power you produce the more fuel you use. The fuel consumption rate for many makes of Diesel Engines can be found in a range between 0.380 & 0.450 lbs/hp hour; 172 & 181 grams/hp hour; 231 & 243 grams/kW hour.

What is the fuel burn ratio of a diesel generator?

This fuel burn ratio will hold true down to about 50\% of the generators capacity. Below 50\% load, the fuel efficiency in terms of kWh/gallon will be less. Running diesel generators at loads less than 50\% can cause engine problems and after treatment problems in tier 4 final equipment (emissions and diesel particulate reduction).

How much gas does it take to produce 5bhp per hour?

Alejandro Regueiro has given a detailed and exact calculation, coming up with 895g/hour, about 1.1 liter. Then he suggests a realistic figure would be about 1.25 liter. Many years ago I used a rule of thumb: one half Imperial gallon (4.5 liter) per ten horsepower per hour. For 5 bhp that works out at 1.125 liter/hour.
