Does it matter which way a SATA cable goes?

No it doesn’t matter but i am a bit surprised that u dont have enough space to insert the sata cable. Try and do some cable management.or u might have installed ur drive wrongly. Its no big deal which side of the cable u use.

Are both ends of a SATA cable the same?

SATA cables are long, 7-pin cables. One end plugs into a port on the motherboard, usually labeled SATA, and the other (such as the angled end) into the back of a storage device like a SATA hard drive.

Does switching SATA ports matter?

Switching the ports on a Windows based machine does not matter AFTER it has been assigned a drive letter. If you swapped the ports before assigning a drive letter then the drives would show up in a different order in Disk Management.

It’s fine. You won’t corrupt anything. Worst case scenario you swap the ports back the way they were. If you had a RAID setup I would say yes, swapping the ports is not recommended.

eSATA USB port is a port combines eSATA with USB. It allows you to plug an eSATA or a USB drive into it directly. However, the eSATA USB port only supports USB 2.0 protocol, which means that the speed is only 60 MB/s (USB 2.0) even you have inserted a USB 3.0 drive.
