Does MIT have good financial aid?

The estimated average price for an undergraduate receiving need-based aid in 2021–2022 is about $22,969—that’s approximately what it costs to attend a state school. Overall, 85\% of our students receive some type of financial aid including scholarships and work, and 82\% of students graduate debt free.

Does MIT negotiate financial aid?

While we don’t negotiate financial aid or match another school’s offer, we’re always willing to talk with students and families who are concerned that they can’t afford MIT with their award. If you decide you need to appeal your financial aid award, we ask that you reach out to your financial aid counselor.

Do you have to pay back MIT financial aid?

The most common type of aid is the MIT Scholarship. If you receive one, it is a grant that does not need to be repaid.
