Does Russia still use T-72?

The T-72 is a family of Soviet/Russian main battle tanks that first entered production in 1969. About 25,000 T-72 tanks have been built, and refurbishment has enabled many to remain in service for decades. The T-72B3 version introduced in 2010 is considered a third-generation main battle tank (MBT).

Why is the M60 not a Patton?

Although developed from the M48 Patton, the M60 tank series was never officially christened as a Patton tank. The US Army considered it a “product-improved descendant” of the Patton tank’s design. The M60 tank series became America’s primary main battle tank during the Cold War. Over 15,000 M60s were built by Chrysler.

Did the m240 replaced the M60?

After extensive operational and technical tests, the US Army has selected and type classified the M240B 7.62mm medium machine gun produced by Fabrique Nationale as a replacement for the M60 Series machine gun. The M240D 7.62mm machine gun is a left hand feed, gas operated, air cooled, fixed head space weapon.

What is the difference between the M-60 and the T-62?

The M-60 is a tall tank, and this problem was exacerbated by putting a turreted machinegun position on the top of the hull. The M-60 had one of the first ballistic gun computers which the T-62 lacked. The T-62, like most Soviet tanks, sacrificed some armor thickness for a smaller better sloped profile.

How does the M60A3 compare to the T-72 Ural?

The M60A3 has a 109mm thick UFP sloped back 65 degrees from vertical. That equates to around 260mm LoS, and that’s obviously really damn good. The T-72 Ural has 205mm sloped back 68 degrees, making it closer to 550mm LoS. At this point it seems that the Ural is miles ahead in terms of armor effectiveness.

Why is the T-62 considered a bad tank?

The T-62, like most Soviet tanks, sacrificed some armor thickness for a smaller better sloped profile. The T-62 is a good looking tank, with a wide footprint but not as tall and easy to spot as the M-60. It carries fewer rounds for its cannon, has shorter range, and is much less comfortable for the crew, which reduces performance and readiness.

Is the T-72 Ural worth it?

The T-72 Ural is closely matched to the far cheaper M60A3. This is amazing honestly. The T-72 Ural is better only in mobility compared to the M60A3. However, the M60A3 provides a better chance of first hit kills at a much cheaper price.
