How are smoke dampers controlled?
Smoke dampers are operated by either a factory-installed elec- tric or a pneumatic actuator. They are controlled by smoke detectors and/or fire alarms.
How fire damper works in Ahu?
In general a fire damper works when heat from a fire causes the normal temperature of a room to rise to approximately 165 degrees Fahrenheit i.e. it is designed to close automatically on the detection of heat. The fusible link which is attached to the damper melts causing the dampers’ door to close.
Where are fire smoke dampers required?
Generally, fire dampers are required where air ducts penetrate walls that are rated for 2-hours or more. They are needed in all air transfer openings (non-ducted) in rated walls, regardless of the rating. And they are required at some, but not all penetrations of rated floor assemblies and shaft enclosures.
What is the purpose of fire or smoke damper systems in an HVAC system?
The primary purpose of fire smoke damper installation is to stop the flow of flames from one end of a fire-rated intersection to the other. The fire dampers are designed in such a way that the device will automatically close upon heat or flame detection and prevent the passage of flames from one point to another.
What are fire smoke dampers?
Fire dampers are provided with an hourly fire rating. Smoke damper’s primary function is to control the movement of smoke in dynamic air distribution systems, and they reduce the possibility of smoke transfer within ductwork or through wall openings. Smoke dampers are provided with leakage and temperature ratings.
What is a damper control panel?
Normal operation: The damper control panel shall monitor zone volt free contacts (normal closed) in the fire alarm panel. The damper panle to be configured to a supplied cause and effect which will energise a control relay within each interface device to provide a power supply to the dampers.
What are volume control dampers?
The Volume Control Damper is used to control air flow in air duct. This unit comes with complete manual quadrant or motorized actuators. The Volume control dampers help to adjust the air flow volume to the other parts of this duct system. These dampers can be fixed within the duct itself and can be automatic or manual.
How is a fire damper installed?
Fire dampers are installed in ducts passing through or in air outlet openings terminating at shaft walls, fire barriers (such as an occupancy separation wall, horizontal exit walls, corridor walls, corridor ceilings, floor-ceiling assemblies) and other fire resistance–rated assemblies as required by a building or life …
What is the objective of a smoke damper?
Smoke dampers are passive fire protection products used in air conditioning and ventilation ductwork or installed in physical smoke barriers (e.g., walls). This may be done to prevent the spread of smoke from the space of fire origin to other spaces in the same building.
What is a combination fire smoke damper?
A combination fire/smoke damper is used when a barrier is both rated for fire resistance as well as designed to restrict the transfer of smoke and will meet both the fire damper and smoke damper requirements.
What is the minimum required temperature for a smoke purging system?
: Smoke purging system with natural opening for supply air intake Exhaust fans shall be rated at minimum 250°C. Supply air part of the smoke purging system is provided via opening to the external air. The openings provided for supply air shall not be less than 2.5\% of the floor area of each basement storey.
What are the requirements for smoke ventilation shafts in a building?
Smoke ventilation shafts where extending through storeys above, shall be enclosed with imperforate walls having minimum 1-hr fire resistance. b. Separate smoke ventilation shafts and outlets shall be provided for each basement storey.
Does the interlocking arrangement apply to smoke purging system?
The interlocking arrangement will not apply if smoke purging system consists of only the exhaust part. However, the exhaust system shall also be designed into two section as per the above. f.
Where is the start stop switch on a smoke purging system?
In addition, a remote manual start-stop switch shall be located at the FCC, or at main fire alarm panel on first storey (where there is no FCC in the building). Visual indication of the operation status of the smoke purging system shall also be provided with this remote control.
