How can I train for basic mountaineering course?

Find your trail and if it’s mountaineering, then prepare honestly.

  1. Ensure you start training seriously six months before the course.
  2. Aim to run 3 to 5km uphill continuously within 45mins.
  3. Do a couple of practice treks with an uphill incline with a 12kg backpack.
  4. Apply sunblock every 3 to 4 hours to avoid sunburn.

Primarily there are four types of mountaineering courses; Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC), Advance Mountaineering Course (AMC), Search and Rescue (SAR) and Method of Instruction (MOI). BMC and AMC are normally for duration of 28 days, while SAR and MOI could vary from 15-21 days.
