A major waste stream in construction of concrete structures is the steel reinforcement waste generated during cutting of steel rebar to their final required lengths.

The quality check of the reinforcement bars brought to the site can be performed by following inspection and tests:

  1. Compare the manufacturer test certificate.
  2. Check the grade of the steel in the manufacturer certificate and look at whether it is as per the order.

Bundles of reinforcement should be stored in a clean location, off the ground and away from mud and oil. They should be stacked with sufficient timber supports so that the bars do not buckle, bend or sag. The bundles should be clearly identified so that they can be easily found when required.
