How can you make sure a floating shelf is level?

Clear out the floating shelf and push it upwards to a straight level that it should be. Keep this level maintained. Now, stack the shims/wedges together and below the shelf, push the stacked shims upwards behind the shelf. If the shelf is still loose, add more shims till it becomes tight enough to hold.

Why do my floating shelves lean forward?

The one reason these types of shelves fail is because the hardware doesn’t hold up overtime. Once it starts to sag, things literally go sideways, sliding off your shelf. Or at worst, your shelf could fall right off. The hardware can also limit what you can place on the shelf when you’ve got little weight support.
