How do I choose a subwoofer for my AV Receiver?
One of the first things to consider is what size sub you want. Generally speaking, the larger the surface area of the woofer, the deeper it will play — that’s indicated by the sub’s frequency response, which is measured in Hz. It may be tempting to go for the largest sub you can find. But bigger is not always better.
How do I choose the right subwoofer?
Size of the Woofer Do not only consider the size of the subwoofer. You should consider the power, sensitivity rating, and enclosure type. If you would like the system to play loud, low music, and you also have enough space, then choose the biggest subwoofer possible. Do not underestimate the small subwoofer.
Do subwoofers need to match speakers?
As a general rule, we do not recommend mixing and matching different brands of speakers in a surround sound system. Even mixing different lines within a particular brand can present problems. In fact, there is rarely any reason to keep your subwoofer the same brand as your main speakers, perhaps other than cosmetics.
What is the difference between 4 6 and 8 ohm speakers?
8 ohms presents an easier load for the amplifier compared to 6. For example, if an 8 ohm speaker is drawing 50 watts, it will draw twice that power at 4 ohms. The amplifier may not have enough power to provide at 4 ohms and will clip and sound distorted.
Can you connect a wireless subwoofer to a Denon receiver?
Yes, you can use any existing powered subwoofer with your HEOS AVR. Just connect the active subwoofer by cable to the RCA jack on the backside of the HEOS AVR. Alternatively, you can connect the wireless HEOS Subwoofer.
What is the best speaker for music on an AVR?
If you want to keep that AVR, you could use a separate integrated amp for music, and use a speaker switch. The Beresford TC 7220 is a good one, but is not inexpensive at approx £100. I had a Denon 6300 for a while and found that to be very ‘unmusical’, although it sounded great for movies.
Can the Denon Zone 2 preamp be used with an integrated amp?
Yes, you could use the zone 2 pre-out into an integrated amp and use the Denon AVR as a source (eg for digital music). You would have to try it and see how it sounds, as the pre-amp of the Denon would still have an effect. Generally you would connect your music sources directly to the integrated amp to get the best possible sound quality.
Can I use a power amp with the Denon AVR x2400h?
This game is a slippery slope.. Hi, yes, unfortunately without the necessary pre-outs you cannot use a power amp with the Denon AVR X2400H. A power amp may not necessarily bring about the improvements that you are looking for though, as the pre-amp section is equally as important as the power amps when it comes to sound quality.
Do I need a power amp for my AVR?
A power amp may not necessarily bring about the improvements that you are looking for though, as the pre-amp section is equally as important as the power amps when it comes to sound quality. If you want to keep that AVR, you could use a separate integrated amp for music, and use a speaker switch.
