How do they build bases in Antarctica?

Unlike the drifting ice stations set up in the Arctic, the Research stations of the Antarctic are constructed either on rock or on ice that is (for practical purposes) fixed in place. Many of the stations are staffed around the year.

How are stations in Antarctica powered?

Power is generated at each of Australia’s stations using diesel powered generators. These are housed in the main power house (MPH). There is also an emergency power house (EPH) at each station. This is used as a backup and in case of major power failure.
