How do you calculate the current in a power transformer?

If for some reason you need a larger transformer to operate appliances, you still divide the wattage by the voltage to find the current. For a 120-volt primary, 2000-watt transformer, divide 2000 by 120 for the current (2000 Watts /120 volts =16.67 amps). For a 240-volt, 3000-watt transformer, the current is 12.5 amps.

How is transformer current rating calculated?

Calculate the current from the voltage/amperage (VA) specification or the power rating designated in watts. Both figures mean basically the same thing. Divide either the VA or wattage rating of the transformer by the voltage. This will give you the current rating.

How do you calculate current in a 3 phase transformer?

the following figure presents a nameplate of a three phase transformer….Using the aforementioned formula, let’s confirm this rating:

  1. Primary Voltages or High Voltages (H.V) is 11000 volts.
  2. Primary Current (current on High Voltage side) is 5.25 amps.
  3. KVA = (√3. V x I) /1000= (1.732 × 11000 × 5.25)/1000=100 KVA.

How do you calculate current in a step up transformer?

Using this formula, P = E x I, and its direct derivatives, I = P / E and E = P / I, all transformer attributes can be calculated. For example, if the transformer’s rating is 10 KVA and has a 240-volt output, it has a current capacity of 41.67 amperes (10,000 watts / 240 volts = 41.67 amps).

What is the formula to calculate current?

The current is the ratio of the potential difference and the resistance. It is represented as (I). The current formula is given as I = V/R. The SI unit of current is Ampere (Amp).

What is 11KV transformer?

The 11kV lines are used in residential areas and is what feeds the local transformers, which then distributes power to the buildings in the area. This power can then be safely distributed in order to power a town near the transformer.

What is the rating of a transformer in kVA?

In simple words, Transformer rating in kVA = 100 kVA Primary Voltages = 11000 = 11kV Primary Current = 5.25 A Secondary Voltages = 415V Secondary Current = 139.1 Amperes. Now calculate for the rating of transformer according to

How do you calculate MVA of a three phase transformer?

Three phase transformer MVA calculations: S (MVA) = 1.732 * V (primary L-N) * I (Primary) / 10 6 = √ 3 * V (secondary L-N) * I (secondary) / 10 6 S (MVA) = V (primary L-L) * I (Primary) / 10 6 = V (secondary L-L) * I (secondary) / 10 6

How do you calculate the current in a transformer?

Transformer current calculations: Transformer turns ratio, V(primary) * I(Primary) = V(secondary) * I(secondary) The primary voltage is equal to the product of the secondary voltage and primary current divided by secondary current.

What is the proper load of a transformer?

Dear, The proper load of transformer is not defined (it may inductive, capacitive, resistive or max load…Thats why it is rated in kVA insted or kW. In a numerical probem, transformer rating is given as 220/13.8 KV. I want to know which is primary and which is its secondary?
