How do you communicate with your partner in bridge?

Not surprisingly, that’s not allowed in bridge. In fact, bridge only allows the following words to be spoken as a way to communicate with your partner: The numbers one through seven. The names of the suits: clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades.

Who is declarer in bridge?

The two teams are also called “pairs”. In a pair, whoever is playing the hand is the “declarer” because that person has declared the “trump suit” or has made the hand to be played without a trump suit, which is called “notrump”.

What is a trick in bridge?

A trick consists of four cards, one from each player in turn, clockwise around the table. Hence, there are 13 tricks to be won on each deal. The first card played to each trick is called the lead. If it is your turn to lead, you may play any card in your hand.

The player who, for his side, first bid the suit (or notrump) of the contract becomes the declarer. For example, if you bid 3NT (which becomes the contract) and partner previously bid 1NT, then partner will be the declarer. The partner of the declarer becomes the dummy. The two remaining players will be the defenders.
