How do you find the larger arc of a circle?

The arc length of a circle can be calculated with the radius and central angle using the arc length formula,

  1. Length of an Arc = θ × r, where θ is in radian.
  2. Length of an Arc = θ × (π/180) × r, where θ is in degree.

Can major arc have 4 letters?

To avoid confusion, major arcs are usually named with the words “major arc” and two letters or the word “arc” and three letters. For example major arc(BC) and arc(BAC) both refer to the major arc shown in the illustration above.

How many major arcs can a circle have?

A chord, a central angle or an inscribed angle may divide a circle into two arcs. The smaller of the two arcs is called the minor arc. The larger of the two arcs is called the major arc. In the illustrations below the circle is divided into two arcs, minor arc BC and major arc BC.

Minor arcs are named with the word “arc” or the words “minor arc” and two or three letters (usually two letters).

Can a minor arc have 3 points?

In the figure, m⌢AB=x° and m⌢ACB=(360−x)° . Note that the minor arc is named with just two endpoints, while the major arc is named with three letters, the two endpoints and a third point on the arc. Adjacent arcs are arcs of the same circle that have exactly one point in common.

What are the major arcs?

A major arc is the longer arc connecting two endpoints on a circle. The measure of a major arc is greater than 180° , and equal to 360° minus the measure of the minor arc with the same endpoints. An arc measuring exactly 180° is called a semicircle .

What are the minor arcs of?

A minor arc is the shorter arc connecting two endpoints on a circle .

  • The measure of a minor arc is less than 180° , and equal to the measure of the arc’s central angle .
  • The measure of a major arc is greater than 180° , and equal to 360° minus the measure of the minor arc with the same endpoints.
