How do you stop AAC blocks from cracking?

What causes cracks in AAC block walls?

There are many reasons for cracks in AAC block walls – Shifting or settling in the foundation – This is the main reason why masonry units develop cracks. Improper installation of blocks – If the AAC blocks are not installed properly and lack of required skilled workmanship also caused the blocks to develop crack.

What are the causes of cracks in walls?

Shrinkage in blocks or poor quality of blocks may also cause a crack in a wall. Use of higher grade of cement to make mortar. Use of rich cement mortar i.e. the cement content is higher than specified in the design mix. Use of very fine sand to make mortar i.e. higher silt content or use of sand which is not graded properly.

Why do AAC blocks shrink so quickly?

The number one culprit is drying shrinkage. AAC blocks during the process of manufacturing, as they come out of autoclave, contain high amount of residual moisture to the tune of 25\%. This residual moisture leaves the blocks predominantly in the first 48 hours.

What causes cracks in concrete blocks?

Regularly spaced cracks often are caused by shrinkage of the concrete block. The spacing of such shrinkage cracks depends on the moisture content of the block when installed, the amount of the block’s linear shrinkage, and the humidity in the area where it is installed.
