How do you write Latin accents?

A macron, derived from the Greek μακρόν, meaning “long,” is a diacritical mark, (¯), used to distinguish long or heavy syllables in Greco-Roman metrics. Its opposite is the breve, ⟨˘⟩, marking a short or light syllable or a short vowel.
