How does a background check verify employment in India?

How is a Background Verification Process Done in India? Companies start the Background Verification process by calling your last employer. They’ll check the details you gave them against data from your last company. Then, companies look into public databases (criminal records) for any illegal activity.

How employer know my UAN number?

You can either ask your employer for the UAN details or you can find out yourself, through the EPFO’s UAN portal. Go to the EPFO’s Unified Member Portal for UAN related services. Select the ‘Know your UAN status’ option under the ‘important links’ section. You will be redirected to another page.

Is UAN used for background verification?

Simple answer is NO. A job applicant’s BGV won’t be failed just coz his UAN service records are contradicting with the service records he showed on his CV. As mentioned before, UAN is obtained to link with PF account and not to cross verify the service history.

Technically, no background check will ever show a candidate’s history of past jobs. The most common background check that employers run is a criminal history search. This search will uncover conviction records, but it won’t provide a record of where the candidate has worked over the years.

When the new employer tries to create a new UAN the system would say the employee has already a UAN. Then the employer would ask you to share the UAN. It depends on the system. Previousely the system used to create the UAN for the second time for the same person. However, after the software updates the system is not accepting to create new UAN.
