How does a turret work?
A modern gun turret is generally a rotatable weapon mount that houses the crew or mechanism of a projectile-firing weapon and at the same time lets the weapon be aimed and fired in some degree of azimuth and elevation (cone of fire).
How does a hydraulic turret work?
Turret rotation is driven by hydraulic motor for high torque output and maximum stability. Turret clamping/ un-clamping is operated through hydraulic power, assuring smooth motion and permitting for heavy duty machining. The turret is mounted on left side of the spindle and has bi-direction tool selection function.
How do tank turrets rotate?
In the conventional design, a spur gear in the hull (called the traverse gear) engages an internal gear lining the inside of the turret. Turning the traverse gear rotates the turret on the hull, allowing the tank crew to aim the main gun without turning the entire tank. The crew can also pivot the main gun up and down.
How does a ship turn a turret?
The inside perimeter of the hull cut-out is machined to be gear teeth. The turret traversing motor is attached to the turret itself, and when the turret and hull are mated together, a geared shaft from the turret motor engages the gear teeth on the hull, and that’s what turns the turret.
What happens when you remove the turret from a tank?
When you remove the turret, the driver’s compartment and the central space where the turret sits are just one big space, there is nothing separating them. The engine compartment is a separate compartment, and there is a thick armored bulkhead that separates the engine and fuel tanks from the other part of the tank that has people in it.
How are tanks connected to the hull?
The turret is connected to the hull via a turret ring. The tank itself is divided into 3 general compartments, the driving compartment (normally housing the driver + controls, and if relevant the bow gunner/co-driver/radio-operator or whatever you call him. The guy next to the driver.).
How does the turret basket work?
You can see underneath the turret there, there is a cage almost. This is called the turret basket. It essentially gives the crew a place to sit/stand while the turret is rotating that means they will rotate easily around with it, the cage prevents errant limbs getting caught and knocking into things.
