How does ARP poisoning work?

An ARP spoofing, also known as ARP poisoning, is a Man in the Middle (MitM) attack that allows attackers to intercept communication between network devices. The attack works as follows: The attacker uses a spoofing tool, such as Arpspoof or Driftnet, to send out forged ARP responses.

When routers receive ARP requests from one network for hosts on the network, they will respond with a ARP reply packet with their MAC address. For example, let us say host A is in one network, host B is in another network and router C connects these two networks.
