How hard is it to qualify for USAMO?

Posted on January 11, 2020 by Author

How hard is it to qualify for USAMO?

The AIME is a highly difficult 15-question exam in which testers have 3 hours to complete. Typically, an index of 210 or higher is necessary to qualify, which combines your AMC Score + 10*AIME score. So if you have a 120 on the AMC and 10 on the AIME, that is enough to qualify for the USAMO.

How many people qualify to USAMO?

Qualification for the USAMO however is much harder. Only 260-270 people qualify every year. USAMO qualifiers need a good combination of AMC & AIME scores. The average score on the AMC 12 for a USAMO qualifier is around 114-132.

What Aime score do you need for USAMO?

Students taking the AMC 12 A, or AMC 12 B plus the AIME I need a USAMO index of 219.0 or higher to qualify for the USAMO. Students taking the AMC 12 A, or AMC 12 B plus the AIME II need a USAMO index of 229.0 or higher to qualify for the USAMO.

Can you take both Aimes?

Beginning in 2000, the AIME is given twice per year, the second date being an “alternate” test given to accommodate those students who are unable to sit for the first test because of spring break, illness, or any other reason. However, under no circumstances may a student officially participate both competitions.

For students taking the 2012 AMC 10 contests, we will invite students in the top 2.5\% of all scorers or scorers with at least 120 points (whichever is more inclusive) to the AIME. This differs from the values of 1\% (or 120 points) which have been in effect since 2004.

How are AMC students invited to USAMO or USAJMO competitions?

For the AMC 10, at least the top 2.5\% of all scorers from the A and B competition dates are invited, and for the AMC 12, at least the top 5\% of all scorers on each version are invited.
