How hard is it to qualify for USAMO?
The AIME is a highly difficult 15-question exam in which testers have 3 hours to complete. Typically, an index of 210 or higher is necessary to qualify, which combines your AMC Score + 10*AIME score. So if you have a 120 on the AMC and 10 on the AIME, that is enough to qualify for the USAMO.
How many people qualify to USAMO?
Qualification for the USAMO however is much harder. Only 260-270 people qualify every year. USAMO qualifiers need a good combination of AMC & AIME scores. The average score on the AMC 12 for a USAMO qualifier is around 114-132.
What Aime score do you need for USAMO?

Can you take both Aimes?
Beginning in 2000, the AIME is given twice per year, the second date being an “alternate” test given to accommodate those students who are unable to sit for the first test because of spring break, illness, or any other reason. How do I qualify for the AIME?
All students who took the AMC 12 and achieved a score of 100 or more out of a possible 150 or were in the top 5\% are invited to take the AIME. All students who took the AMC 10 and had a score of 120 or more out of a possible 150, or were in the top 2.5\% also qualify for the AIME.
How are AMC students invited to USAMO or USAJMO competitions?
For the AMC 10, at least the top 2.5\% of all scorers from the A and B competition dates are invited, and for the AMC 12, at least the top 5\% of all scorers on each version are invited. After the AIME I and AIME II are scored, the MAA AMC program will determine the cutoff indexes that will qualify students for USAMO or USAJMO participation.
How difficult is the AIME?
The questions on the AIME are much more difficult and students are very unlikely to obtain the correct answer by guessing. As with the AMC 10 and AMC 12 (and the USAMO), all problems on the AIME can be solved by pre-calculus methods. The use of calculators is not allowed.
