How is pump head shut off calculated?

According to clause 6.1. 11 of API 610,11th Ed., the minimum head rise from rated point to shutoff head shall be 10\%. Thus the shutoff head is H(rated)*1.1. Now considering the test tolerances according to pump rated head, the final (minimum) shutoff head will be calculated.

What does head mean on a pump?

Head is the height given by the pump to the fluid and it is measured in meters of liquid column [m.l.c.] or simply indicated in meters [m]. The given head is fluid independent: different fluids. with different specific gravities are all lifted at the same height.

How do I increase my head on my pump?

Deadhead the pump for an extended period. Deadheading means you shut off the pump’s ability to discharge fluid by closing a valve. The fluid will churn inside the pump until it heats into a vapor. The pump’s impeller is now receiving little to no fluid, usually causing irreparable damage.
