How long can you be cryogenically frozen?

Cryopreservation has long been used by medical laboratories to maintain animal cells, human embryos, and even some organized tissues, for periods as long as three decades.

What is the advantage of cryonics?

It’s designed to cool the body, so that everything slows down at a molecular level, according to Dennis Kowalski, chief executive officer of the Cryonics Institute. Once the blood is pumped out of the body, it’s cooled even further but in a way that preserves the organs and hinders tissue damage.

What is the process of cryogenics?

Essentially, cryogenic processes consist of dropping the temperature of the gas stream to approximately −85°C (−120°F). The rapid temperature drop condenses ethane and other hydrocarbon derivatives in the gas stream, but methane remains in gaseous form.

We wish to clarify that cryogenics, which deals with extremely low temperatures, has no connection with cryonics, the belief that a person’s body or body parts can be frozen at death, stored in a cryogenic vessel, and later brought back to life.

How is body prepared for cryogenically frozen?

When someone who’s made arrangements to have their remains cryonically preserved is declared dead, a medical team cools the body with ice water and keeps the body’s tissues oxygenated using CPR and oxygen masks. The ice-cold body is put in a hermetically sealed container and flown to the cryonics facility.
